No matter what your interests are, Women’s History Month offers numerous avenues through which you can commemorate the indispensable role of women in our society and honor their achievements throughout history.
Below, we’ve curated a list of ideas to inspire your participation in this month’s celebrations.
Check out the Freedom Trail Foundation’s Revolutionary Women Tour, where you’ll discover the pivotal role of women in the American Revolution and subsequent generations as they championed their struggles for freedom and equality. You’ll visit sites around Boston where women’s voices were heard, and where their works were published.
There’s no shortage of ways to give back this month. On March 16, consider participating in the Big for a Day event hosted by the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston in celebration of Women’s History Month. You can also volunteer with Heading Home, an organization dedicated to providing emergency shelter, transitional, and permanent housing to those experiencing homelessness. Another meaningful option is to lend your support to Jane Doe Inc., where you can assist survivors and victims of domestic abuse by offering crucial services such as counseling or access to a 24-hour hotline.
Explore more non-profits you can support here.
Take advantage of the plethora of women-owned restaurants throughout the city, such as Irene Li’s Mei Mei Dumplings, Kristin Canty’s Woods Hill Pier 4, Asia Mei’s Moonshine 152, Nia Grace’s Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen, and others. Grab a quick bite at one of the many vendors of High Street Place Food Hall downtown. Bring your little one to Tracy Skelly’s Little Cocoa Bean Co. Tot Cafe. Or host your own wine & cheese night with Jenn Mason’s Curds & Co.
Support women in the arts and head over to the Museum of Fine Arts to see Comrade Sisters: Women of the Black Panther Party, or see a show at the Boston Ballet (founded by the trailblazing E. Virginia Williams in 1963).
You could also join the Museum of Science as they celebrate women’s contributions to science, culture, and society with a special weekend event (3/23-3/24) that includes featured speakers, live presentations, activities, and more.
Get inspired by the 2024 Pinnacle Awards Honorees, the powerful women who are changing Greater Boston through leadership excellence in entrepreneurship, management, and lifetime achievement. Watch the video as they share invaluable life and career lessons that will leave you feeling empowered and motivated.
Keep the momentum of inspiration alive by attending the Leading Women Awards on March 20, hosted by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, which recognizes leaders who serve as exemplary role models for young girls and women. Or attend our Women’s Network event on March 26 to learn about Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley’s momentous journey as an activist, legislator, and survivor.
At the Women’s Network, we have numerous opportunities throughout the year that celebrate, connect, and uplift women in our community. Explore the Women’s Network to discover the various ways in which you can get involved.
