What’s The Real on Reels?

By Dr. Allana Da Graca, President, Turning On The Lights Global Institute, LLC.

Are you thinking about strengthening your marketing strategy? IG Reels are one of the most useful tools for building brand presence. Today’s consumer spends considerable time on social platforms and Instagram has more than 1 billion users. Instagram decided to elevate its platform by implementing short-form videos for content creators. Brands have the opportunity to build customer trust when they consistently share updates, stories and insider tips to viewers who appreciate the value the companies provide. Aligning your company mission and vision with social networking sites is crucial for brand elevation. I would also advise against posting solely for likes. Algorithm updates for Instagram will focus more on unique content creation that sparks community.

Now we all know the value that social media engagement can have for a business, but only 29% of small business owners utilize social media. IG Reels can bring visibility to a brand by raising the algorithm for posts that use this new media feature.

What are Instagram Reels (IG REELS)?

Instagram reels are immersive videos used to engage a viewer. Content creators have an opportunity to craft unique posts by implementing platform features of the following:

  • Captions
  • Time-sequenced phrases
  • Filters
  • Gifs
  • Voice Caption
  • Audio Narration

At the onset of 2022, social media gurus suggested that businesses adopt a creative approach to content creation. How can we do this? We can integrate trending songs, movements, and captions in a way that educates a prospect about an upcoming offer or launch. What makes IG reels appealing for some? The need to create 10-20 minute long-form videos on a site like YouTube may feel unappealing for those with a crammed schedule. This tool allows you to create content in less than 1-minute! You can show a behind-the-scenes view of how your business operates and bring new prospects to your site or special event. Lastly, Instagram has 400% more reach than many other platforms!

Here are Five Steps to creating an IG reel:

  1. One: Open the IG app and click on the {+} icon.
  2. Two: Select the Media of Choice (Photo/Quote/Stock Image)
  3. Three: Select Image and Edit with the scissor icon
  4. Four: Write a Caption that is relevant to the post
  5. Five: Implement WIIFM (What Is In It For Me) in your messaging

You may have the following questions:

  • Why should the audience care about my video clip?
  • How can this clip solve a challenge for my target?
  • What additional actions can my prospect take?

To see the long-term impact of IG REELS, you want to:

  • Post at least two times per week consistently.
  • Create community around your product
  • Use special months in the year to share your brand mission (Think Black Friday, Mother’s Day and Back to School) forward.

There are thousands of people looking for solutions so why not let them find you? As a communication expert, I never imagined that using social media would be a game changer for my business. As an IG Partner, I am a micro-influencer who can share inspiration and communication tips with entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs who serve others. More importantly, I can connect with constituents around the globe.
