The horrific shooting at Robb elementary school in Uvalde, Texas has shaken every city and community across the nation and world. The victims of this mass shooting, children ages seven through ten years old, and two classroom teachers, entered their school yesterday, and expected a place of learning, joy, and safety. Instead, their parents’ dreams and hopes for their children’s future were shattered. Instead, their children were violently murdered. Instead, two dedicated educators, who were also cherished mothers and community leaders, died trying to protect their students. The Chamber and Greater Boston are mourning with the families and communities of Uvalde, Texas.
To see and live through this violence again and again in this country is horrific and traumatizing. We pray for the victims, their loved ones, and their community. And, we pray also that those who have the power, including policymakers, will find the path to creating a nation where every child and every teacher will attend their school knowing that their present and future will not be stolen.
