Ladies of the food industry leading the way.

Thank you for joining us for a candid conversation with Chef Elle Simone Scott and Owner and Head Chef, Asia Mei, at Moonshine 152 in South Boston. Both women shared their journeys in the culinary industry, overcoming challenges in a male-dominated industry, and how they maintained energy and momentum through adversity. Guests enjoyed Moonshine 152’s tasting lunch while networking with other women professionals in Greater Boston.

Chef Elle Simone Scott is a nationally acclaimed chef, dynamic food stylist, and culinary producer. She founded SheChef, Inc., a professional networking organization for women chefs of color. She also fiercely advocates for advancements in women’s health, specifically support for ovarian cancer patients and survivors. Chef Elle brings unique food styling skills to the culinary industry; her work can be seen on theFood Network, Food Network Magazine, The Cooking Channel, The Katie Couric Show, America’s Test Kitchen, ABC’s The Chew, and Bravo’s Chef Roble Co. To emphasize her creative eye, she’s recently released her own cookbook titled, “Boards: Stylish Spreads for Casual Gatherings.”

Chef Asia Mei, Owner & Head Chef of Moonshine 152, ignited her passion for culinary and culture through the years of “college food” in her dorm and missing access to a well-cooked meal at home. Though Asia jumped into the food industry after a lifetime of sports, Hollywood stunt work, and elite level gymnastics and kung fu competition, she’s certainly made her mark in South Boston by providing a fun, sustainable, and delicious bar and kitchen. In addition to her leadership throughout the restaurant, Chef is a fierce advocate for the hospitality industry, local small businesses, and animal rescue organizations in Southie and Dorchester.

ABOUT THE WOMEN’S NETWORK

In our Women’s Network, you’ll find a diverse group of more than 3,000 (and growing) women and male allies at all levels of their careers, from all backgrounds, sectors, and industries, and professions, with energy for ensuring that Greater Boston becomes the best place for professional women to thrive.

For more than 25 years, the Chamber’s Women’s Network has connected female professionals of all background and career levels. Today, our Women’s Network is the largest in New England, strengthening the professional networks of women each year.

Chef Asia Mei was born and raised in Fremont, California, and attended Boston College before declaring Boston her permanent new home. After a lifetime of Biology and Economics driven academia, she also stretched her horizons with a lifetime of sports, Hollywood stunt work, and elite level gymnastics/kung fu competition.

At Moonshine 152, her first solo chef-owned venture, Mei and her team continue to redefine industry standards and forge its unique place in Boston’s small business community. Chef Mei is impassioned by all things comfort/street food, local, and art-driven. Fueled by the neighborhood’s energy and evolution, the restaurant focuses on maintaining a fun, sustainable, delicious take on bar and kitchen offerings for both award-winning weekend brunch and dinner. Having received numerous accolades from Best Small Business 2020 and Best in Boston Fried Chicken, to Best Brunch and Most Eclectic Restaurant, Moonshine is a true fixture in the Southie community, and continues to draw inspiration from it for everything from the spirit of the food to the drinks and warm, inviting atmosphere.

In her time off the hot-line, you can daily find Chef working both sides of the restaurant, doing all the art for the restaurant, advocating for the hospitality and small business industries in Boston, and championing her love for animal rescue and the Southie/Dorchester neighborhoods.
