Speaker DeLeo joins our Government Affairs series to discuss the work he is doing on a variety of issues including curbing healthcare costs and promoting gun safety.
House Speaker Robert DeLeo represents the Nineteenth Suffolk district in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. In addition to serving the Commonwealth, he also represents the town of Winthrop and a portion of the city of Revere.
His tenure as Speaker of the House began in January 28, 2009. He began his sixth term as Speaker on January 2, 2019. While in office, Speaker DeLeo has focused on empowering the Commonwealth with legislative initiatives geared towards creating jobs, increasing educational opportunities in the state, and creating safer and healthier communities.
Under his leadership, the House has passed nation-leading legislation on issues such as: early education, tackling the opioid crisis, economic development, curbing healthcare costs, promoting gun safety, veteran’s benefits, criminal justice reform, clean energy, and protecting the civil rights of his constituents.
