Chief Justice Ralph Gants, the 37th Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, will be joining us for a one-on-one conversation with Paige Scott Reed, Of Counsel at Anderson & Kreiger LLP. Chief Justice Gants will discuss the importance of judicial independence. Ralph D. Gants became the 37th Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court in July 2014 when he was sworn in by Governor Deval Patrick. He was appointed as an Associate Justice on the Court in January 2009. Before joining the SJC, he served for more than eleven years as an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court, and was Administrative Justice of the Superior Court’s Business Litigation Session in 2008.

Paige Scott Reed is Of Counsel at Anderson & Kreiger, LLP, a vibrant public law boutique currently representing over 150 governmental and quasi-governmental entities across the United States. Anderson & Kreiger is widely recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent law firms for airports, with deep experience in litigation, real estate development, environmental permitting and compliance matters. Paige currently represents public and quasi-public entities, including airport sponsors, in litigation, procurement, regulatory, real estate and administrative matters. Paige advises the Massachusetts Aeronautics Administrator with respect to the regulation of unmanned aerial systems (UAS, more commonly known as drones), and has been instrumental in efforts to advance the integration of UAS into the National Air Space in Massachusetts. Paige’s practice concentrates on litigation, procurement, regulatory and administrative matters, particularly at the intersection between public and private. Paige joined Anderson & Kreiger after serving simultaneously as the General Counsel of both the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. In that role, Paige gained considerable experience forming partnerships between the public and private sectors. Paige helped establish the Massachusetts first Public Private Partnership Commission and presided over all legal aspects of one of the largest public procurements ever in Massachusetts, which successfully transferred the state’s commuter rail operations from one private operator to another. Before entering public service, Paige practiced for many years at major law firms in Boston, litigating complex commercial and criminal matters for a broad range of clients. Paige graduated from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, and was trained as a trial lawyer at Harvard Law School, where she served as an Executive Editor of the Harvard Law Review. In addition to currently serving as the Executive Vice President of the MBLA, Paige serves as Vice President of the Harvard Law School Alumni Association of Massachusetts, a board member of the Harvard Law School Black Alumni Network, a member of the Boston Bar Association Council, and a trustee for both the Boston Bar Foundation and Boston Harbor Now.
