2017 Annual Meeting & Distinguished Bostonians

With the arrival of Spring, it means it’s finally time for the Greater Boston Chamber’s Annual Meeting! We spend much of every new year meeting as a team to brainstorm potential Annual Meeting themes, speakers, honorees, and more. These are important details – after all, the Greater Boston Chamber Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of the region’s business community, attracting more than 1,700 people including business, government, and nonprofit leaders, including the Governor and Mayor. No pressure!

We say this every year, but this year we are SO excited about our theme. Without further ado…

The 2017 Annual Meeting theme is ROI: Return on Influence. This year, we’re celebrating not only the incredible success of the business community, but also the organizations and leaders who are committed to sharing that success across Greater Boston. Boston’s economy is experiencing success like at no other time in its history, thanks in large part to our diverse and collaborative membership who are working together to make our region the best place for businesses and people to thrive.

Our speakers and Inductees into the Academy of Distinguished Bostonians perfectly reflect our theme. Within our five 2017 honorees we have successful business founders, owners, leaders and transformers who have dedicated their lives to sharing their successes, as well as their time, talents and influence to build a stronger Boston. Read more about our amazing event lineup below, and be sure to register for this can’t miss event here.

In 2010, Feinberg was appointed by the Obama Administration to oversee compensation of victims of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010. Most recently, Feinberg has served as Administrator of the New York Archdiocese Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program, the OneOrlando Fund, and the GM Ignition Switch Compensation Program. Joyce and Bill Cummings
Joyce and Bill Cummings are founders of Cummings Properties, a Woburn-based commercial real estate company with a suburban Boston portfolio of more than 10 million square feet. They are also the founders of Cummings Foundation, Inc., which has awarded more than $140 million in grants to Greater Boston nonprofits, and New Horizons Senior Communities, which provides homes for more than 500 Massachusetts seniors. They were the first Massachusetts couple to sign The Giving Pledge, a national philanthropic organization founded by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet, through which the world’s wealthiest individuals and families make a commitment to dedicate the majority of their wealth to philanthropy.

Bill began his career in sales and marketing with Vick Chemical Company and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. The majority of his career, however, has been in the commercial real estate industry, where he has built a reputation for innovative re-use of properties. His firm’s transformation of Beverly’s distressed “Shoe” site into Cummings Center, the North Shore’s largest business and research campus, garnered a Wall Street Journal feature by Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic Ada Louise Huxtable. Mr. Cumming’s outside activities include many philanthropic involvements, and several decades as a director and honorary director of the James L. McKeown Boys and Girls Club of Woburn. He also served 10 years as a charter trustee of Tufts University and is a former overseer of Tufts Medical School and director of Winchester Hospital.

Joyce is a director of Cummings Properties and a trustee of Cummings Foundation, Inc. She began her career as a hospital dietician at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, where she later served on the board of trustees. She has served as women’s golf chair at Winchester Country Club, and is a past president of Winchester’s En Ka Society, a women’s service organization. In addition, Joyce was a longtime member of the board of trustees of Winchester Community Music School and VNA Hospice Care, Inc. of Woburn.

Sandra and Paul Edgerley
Paul and Sandra Edgerley are trustees of the Edgerley Family Foundation. Over the past 25 years, the Edgerleys combined have served on more than 25 nonprofit boards and have contributed more than $120 million, primarily supporting Massachusetts organizations focused on education and opportunities for youth. In addition, the Edgerleys are deeply involved with Harvard University, currently serving as co-chairs of The Harvard University Campaign and the Harvard Campaign for Arts and Sciences.

Sandy is currently chair of The Boston Foundation. She has been actively involved in the education and social service nonprofit arena, including serving five years as the chair of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. She currently serves as a director on a number of nonprofit boards including City Year, where she is National Chair of the Red Jacket Society; Be The Change Inc; Youth Villages; Scholar Athletes; as well as the Senior Advisory Board of Horizons for Homeless Children, and the Massachusetts General Hospital President’s Council. She previously was a long-time board member of the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. Sandy worked at Bain & Company from 1984-1996 both on the consulting staff, and as Director of Recruiting and Training. In addition, Paul currently serves as a Director and Chairman of the Board of Sensata Technologies, a NYSE listed sensor and controls manufacturer. He serves as a director on a number of other corporate boards, both in the US and overseas, including the Boston Celtics. Paul’s philanthropic commitments have included serving on the Dean’s Advisory Board at Harvard Business School, the Executive Committee of the Trust Board of Kansas State University, as well as serving on the boards of Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, New Profit, Inc., the US Board of Right to Play, and YearUp.
