“It is time for moral leadership, and the business community has an important role to play. In moments of crisis – whether in our businesses and organizations, or in our communities – we look for leaders to reaffirm our safety, to remind us of our communal values and principles, to bring us together for reflection and, most importantly, to find a common path forward out of a dark period. So as a Bostonian and Massachusetts resident, I am proud of Mayor Walsh and Governor Baker, and many of our state and city elected officials, for their quick and strong responses to the violence, hate and bigotry seen in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend. As a business community leader, I am also heartened to see many major business leaders across the nation, who, regardless of their political affiliation, are taking a stand and communicating to their employees, their consumers and their communities that they value diversity, equality and opportunity for all as core American business principles. This difficult time in our country’s history is a reminder that business leaders contribute so much more than economic value. Our business community has a voice that matters in defining our city, state and national values and morals. The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce is proud to lend our voice, and the voice of our members, to stand united against racism and unequivocally denounce the evil of white supremacy and neo-Nazi groups in this country.”
