Juneteenth marks a pivotal moment in American history—the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their emancipation, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Recognized as the oldest nationally observed commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, Juneteenth is a day of reflection, celebration, and community. There are many events in Boston and throughout the Commonwealth commemorating Juneteenth, and we invite you to join in events that celebrate freedom, history, and culture. Here are some Juneteenth events in the Greater Boston community:

This joyful event welcomes the community to an afternoon of performances, vendors, exhibits, and speakers centered around this year’s theme: Focus on Freedom. Take part in a food tasting, participate in dance sessions, shop local artisans, and hear from local leaders.
