A Launchpad for Emerging Leaders and Forward-Thinking Employers

Are you looking to invest in the next generation of leadership within your organization, or ready to advocate for your own growth as a rising leader?

Boston's Future Leaders (BFL) is a premier leadership development experience designed for emerging professionals who are ready to shape the future of Greater Boston. This 10-month program blends academic content, social capital, and practical application, to equip participants with the tools to lead with purpose and impact.

Through immersive learning with Harvard Business School faculty, hands-on workshops, and a citywide Leadership Challenge, participants sharpen their strategic thinking, dynamic leadership, and communication skills. Each leader also designs an Individual Action Project bringing real-world solutions back to their organization.

Employers benefit directly from their employees’ growth. Participants return with enhanced management capabilities, stronger civic networks, and actionable strategies tailored to their workplace. Whether solving a pressing challenge or expanding their leadership scope, BFL alumni become trusted ambassadors of innovation, equity, and collaboration.

Innovating Boston's Most Influential Businesses Through BFL's Leadership Challenge

A highlight of the BFL is the Leadership Challenge, the capstone experience where participants gain exclusive, behind‑the‑scenes access to one of Boston’s most influential organizations.

In 2025, BFL partnered with the MBTA to address the challenge of “Help the T Help You.” Cross‑sector teams worked on solutions to rebuild ridership, enhance customer experience, strengthen competitiveness, and explore innovative transit options—delivering real‑world impact that exemplifies the program’s power.

Characteristics of Successful Candidates

  • Are between 25–50 years old
  • Have at least one year of tenure at their current organization
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Boston’s long-term success
  • Can fully participate in the 10-month program
  • Bring diverse backgrounds, perspectives, or lived experiences
Strong applicants show collaboration and management skills, submit thoughtful responses, and have clear support from their manager and organization.

Applicants from small to mid-size companies and nonprofits are especially encouraged.
