Statement from James E. Rooney, President & CEO of the Chamber
“Study after study has shown that Massachusetts, and in particular the coastal city of Boston, must work to plan for and address the potentially devastating future impacts of climate change. So I am pleased to see – and not surprised – that despite President Trump’s unfortunate decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate pact, our city and state leadership has made it clear that they will continue their commitment to combat climate change. Legislation passed just last year in Massachusetts, which was supported by the business community, demonstrates that our state will continue to invest in renewable energy businesses and innovation, and we will continue our steady progress in meeting the aggressive and bold requirements of the Global Warming Solutions Act. This work is important for the business community not only because it aims to protect our region for the long-term future, but also because this new and growing renewable energy industry creates jobs and economic opportunity for the entire Commonwealth. However, Massachusetts alone cannot solve the global climate crisis of the 21st Century. I believe the business community now has the opportunity and responsibility to advocate more strongly for collaborative climate policies that protect our economic future.”
