STATEMENT FROM THE GREATER BOSTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ON H4640 LEGISLATION
Today’s legislation marks the culmination of many months of negotiations and discussions. On behalf of the Chamber and our members, I want to thank the Legislature for its leadership in convening the parties to work through a compromise.
The issues raised by the original ballot questions – minimum wage and paid family leave, among others – are on the minds of many Massachusetts residents, but one-sided, winner-take-all proposals fail to acknowledge the many important perspectives that can speak to the challenges and risks for the economic health of our Commonwealth and its residents.
Although imperfect, this legislation reflects compromise from all sides and we accept it. In the end, all of us share the same goal of creating a better Massachusetts where all residents and businesses have the opportunity to thrive.”
– James E. Rooney, President & CEO, GBCC
