The Greater Boston Chamber is pleased to see the House poised to advance pay equity legislation. As the leading business organization for professional women in Greater Boston, and with the largest women’s network in New England, we are proud to have been an early and vocal supporter for pay equity legislation that balanced the needs of employees and businesses. We are grateful to have been a part of this important conversation during the early stages of the bill, and are particularly thankful to Attorney General Maura Healey and her staff, as well as Senate and House leadership for their willingness to hear feedback from our members. We are pleased to see a House bill that retains the amendments that the Chamber supported in the Senate’s version of the bill and incorporates further clarifying language to protect businesses.
Wage inequality is more than just a business issue: it has severely negative impacts on families and the overall Massachusetts economy. We are thankful to have joined in productive dialogue with legislators that have worked tirelessly over many years to make advancements on this issue, and we are enormously appreciative of their efforts to keep Massachusetts a leading place to live, work and do business for all. We look forward to celebrating this week as the bill moves closer to the Governor’s desk.
