With tax day drawing closer, the Chamber provided state legislators with a new policy brief outlining the urgent need to protect small businesses receiving refundable PPP loans. The Chamber supports Senator Lesser’s proposed solution (SD172) which would ensure the state does not tax small businesses filing under the state’s personal income tax for the forgiven loans they received. Under the proposal, small businesses would be permitted to deduct the forgiven loan amounts from their gross income, ensuring they receive the same tax treatment as corporate income taxpayers and that the state does not undermine the aim of the PPP to maintain jobs and economic activity.
