Moving Massachusetts Forward

Join us on November 20 for a FREE and insightful event featuring Senator Brendan P. Crighton and Representative James Arciero, co-chairs of the Joint Committee on Transportation in Massachusetts.

Tasked with overseeing all legislative matters concerning the development, operation, regulation, and control of transportation, the committee plays a pivotal role in shaping how people and goods move across the Commonwealth. This conversation will explore the Legislature’s transportation priorities and the challenges facing the state’s transportation future.

Whether you’re a policymaker, planner, advocate, or engaged resident, this is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the leaders guiding Massachusetts’ transportation agenda.

Following the address, Senator Crighton and Representative Arciero will join a conversation led by Carolyn Ryan, Managing Director, Public Policy & Government Affairs for State Street, to further explore forward-thinking strategies and opportunities to shape the future of transportation in Massachusetts.

ABOUT TRANSPORTATION FIRST

The Transportation First series offers a platform to discuss the urgent challenges Greater Boston faces by bringing in experts and changemakers to explore the issues and potential solutions for the future of the Commonwealth. This series will help raise broader awareness among employees and employers who are affected by the transit system every day.

By prioritizing all modes of transportation, we can tackle and mitigate other significant policy challenges, including housing, climate decarbonization and adaptation, economic development, economic opportunity, and education access. Transportation First is not only about transportation, but also about delivering improved, more connected and sustainable solutions that are shaping Massachusetts’ tomorrow.

State Representative James “Jim” Arciero has been proudly serving the 2nd Middlesex District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 2009, which includes the towns of Chelmsford, Littleton, and Westford.

In 2025, Representative Arciero was named by the Speaker of the House to serve as House Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation, where he’s leading efforts to make roads safer, modernize transit, and invest in infrastructure that is fair, sustainable, and built to last.

Previously, Representative Arciero served as House Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing beginning in 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In that role, he guided the House through an unprecedented housing crisis and was instrumental in the passage of the Affordable Homes Act of 2024, a landmark, $5 billion investment that stands as the largest investment in housing in Massachusetts history. Under his leadership, the committee worked to expand housing production, strengthen affordability, provide rental assistance, and combat homelessness statewide.

Before his chairmanship roles, the representative also served as Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Higher Education and Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Export Development. Throughout his legislative career, he has been a strong advocate for increased education funding for K–12 and vocational schools, expanded access to reproductive and mental health care, greater benefits for veterans and their families, and environmental policies that promote public health and climate justice for future generations.

A lifelong Westford resident, Representative Arciero has built his career on fighting for better schools, affordable housing, reliable transportation, and a healthier environment for future generations. A proud graduate of Westford Academy, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a Master’s in Public Administration from Suffolk University. He is also a proud Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Scouting.

At home, he and his wife, Bridget, are raising their daughter, Angelina. When he’s not working, you’ll probably find him digging through vinyl records, watching a good movie, or shooting hoops with his daughter.
