Grow Your Business with Small Business Strong
Across the state of Massachusetts, government entities and private companies are looking to do business with certified diverse businesses. But what does it mean to be a certified business and how does one obtain that certification?
In this presentation, business owners will learn about the different types of diversity certifications available, how having a diversity certification may be a useful tool to help market their business, and what the Supplier Diversity Office (SDO) does to encourage the participation of diverse businesses in the State procurement process.
Please note that this is an informational session and not a Pre-Certification Webinar, which is a requirement of applying for diversity certification through the SDO. Attendees will receive information about upcoming Pre-Certification Webinars during the presentation.
This workshop is geared towards business owners who may fall into one or more of these categories:
Minority business enterprise (MBE)
Woman-owned business enterprise (WBE)
Veteran-owned business enterprise (VBE)
LGBT business enterprise (LGBTBE)
Service-disabled veteran business enterprise (SDOVBE)
Persons with disabilities-owned business enterprise (DOBE)
ABOUT THE MASSACHUSETTS SUPPLIER DIVERSITY OFFICE (SDO)
Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office’s mission is to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in state contracting for businesses owned by minorities, women, Portuguese, veterans, service-disabled veterans, those with a disability, and LGBT individuals, as well as small Massachusetts businesses. The SDO certifies these businesses and manages several programs that help them enhance their marketability when bidding on public contracts

Small Business Strong is a leading technical assistance initiative that revitalizes and fortifies small businesses, especially women and minority owned enterprises, through expedited, pro-bono resources. Small Business Strong has served more than 3,600 businesses, preserved nearly 10,000 jobs, and bolstered the health of the region’s small businesses to create an inclusive, dynamic economy.

Algeria is a versatile professional with 25 years of work experience in state government with experience, education, and training in business management, program management, human resources, Scrum Master, CORE management, tax preparation, and real estate. Algeria’s extensive knowledge spans across many industries offering valuable insights to business owners, clients and stakeholders alike.
She is intentional about fostering inclusive economic growth by connecting diverse businesses with opportunities, facilitating strategic partnerships amongst agencies and organizations that are committed to providing the support/services to businesses which will provide long-term value for a business and owners.
Algeria has taken on many roles within the SDO over the many years from Administration, Certification Renewal Specialist, Third-Party Certification Liaison and her current position. During her tenure at the SDO, one of her many accomplishments was the role she had in developing the initial third-party certification application process to include veteran-owned businesses.
In her current role as the Small and Diverse Business Outreach, Growth and Retention Coordinator, Algeria conducts outreach and workshop initiatives to invite diverse and small businesses to participate in certification and to bid on government contracts. She also works to create connections and partnerships between these businesses, private organizations, state agencies, and municipalities.
Algeria is passionate about empowering business owner’s and individuals, as she continues to advocate for opportunities and resources to navigate the complexity of achieving sustainable growth, and to deliver the SDO’s mission of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in state contracting for diverse and small businesses.
