Mental Health & Wellness

Mental health and wellness are essential to an individual’s overall well-being. However, studies show that our state and our nation are struggling with a mental health crisis. In fact, a recent survey commissioned by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation during the COVID pandemic showed that more than one in three Massachusetts residents over the age of 19 reported needing mental health care. This program – during national Mental Health Awareness Month – helped identify the role employers can play in supporting their employees mental health.

Offering expert, timely perspectives, the “Future of Work” series presents the future now: how business and government can and should recognize and act on the innovation, agility, and empathy required to support our vibrant, diverse workforce and communities, bolstering the region’s competitive edge in the global marketplace.

The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce encourages persons with disabilities to participate, and engage fully, in its programs and events. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation, including but not limited to, listening devices, closed captioning, large print, wheelchair access, allergies and environmental sensitivities, or if you have any questions about the venue, event format, or virtual platform, please Contact us.

Currently I am the Director of Total Rewards with The Boston Beer Company who are the makers of Sam Adams, Truly, Twisted Tea, Angry Orchard and Dogfish Head brands. I joined the company about 5 years go and my team is responsible for designing and managing an engaging Compensation and Benefit Program for our 2,700 coworkers. Over the past 5 years BBC has grown tremendously with a ~40% increase in headcount. This has required us revamp of most of our compensation and benefit programs to meet the needs of our diverse workforce who range from manufacturing coworkers in our breweries to office/sales coworkers and even bartenders and servers in our taprooms. Enhancing mental health access and quality in 2022 was a high priority for us and the standard EAP, while helpful, did not always provide the best resources for our coworkers and were limited in how they could help beyond providing referrals. With our partnership with Modern Health we’ve improved access to care with coworkers being able to see a coach or therapist within a week of requesting and provided a broader network to allow for in person coverage for anyone over the age of 6 within the household.

Prior to my time at Boston Beer I spent the prior 10 years in financial services with Bank of America and Santander Bank focusing only in the compensation discipline. My primary responsibilities were to build and manage compensation programs for our wealth investment businesses and managing our annual compensation processes. Prior to working in compensation I stayed local to my home in MA and received my BS from Bridgewater State University.
