  • Jill Medvedow will join us to promote knowledge and lifelong learning, and give her case on the importance of art in light of health, justice, and happiness.

Tickets

  • Members & Non-Members: $35
  • RSVP by Monday, February 10
  • City Awake programs are open to young professionals between the ages of 21 – 39.

Jill Medvedow will join us to promote knowledge and lifelong learning, and give her case on the importance of art in light of health, justice, and happiness.

Jill Medvedow, the 13th director of the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, is a national leader in contemporary art and civic life. Jill is passionate about transforming various landscapes into cultural assets, amplifying artists’ unique voices, and providing access and equity in the arts. Jill’s dedication to art and education, and her thrill for taking risks has been an inspiration to a number of young, future leaders.

In our February Words of Wisdom dinner, Jill will promote knowledge and lifelong learning, and give her case on the importance of art in light of health, justice, and happiness.

What are our Words of Wisdom Dinners?

Words of Wisdom Dinners are a complement to our Lunches on Leadership. In this series, a very senior leader joins a small group of young professionals for a conversation about incredible milestones we’ve observed in their career. We pick their brain on highs and lows, and leave plenty of time for questions.

FAQs:

  • What is included in my registration?  In your registration, you will have access to a welcoming community of young professionals, the opportunity to be inspired by a local leader in our community, and the ability to engage in topical discussions featuring the issues affecting our region. A light dinner will also be included.

  • What should I bring? Please bring a valid ID to check in with security.
  • What should I wear?  We like to say, come dressed for your day, meaning whatever you feel most comfortable in. City Awake events are typically more casual, unless told otherwise.
  • Who will be there?  Stay tuned for our guest list that will be uploaded closer to the event.
  • When should I arrive?  We recommend you join us right around 5:30pm for the dinners to have enough time to get a seat and grab food before the speaking portion starts.
  • Can I register on-site at the event?  We do not typically allow on-site registration for City Awake events. Please register ahead of time.
  • What is the refund policy?  All cancellations must be received at least three (3) business days prior to the event to avoid being charged or to receive a refund.

  • What if I am visually, auditorily, or physically impaired?  Please let us know ahead of the event if you need any extra assistance upon arrival. We typically always have microphones and recommend that you sit towards the front of the room.
  • Will there be an opportunity to ask questions? Yes! Come prepared to ask questions during the Q&A portion of the program, which is after the moderated discussion.

Jill Medvedow is the 13th director of the ICA and a national leader in contemporary art and civic life. Under Medvedow’s leadership, the ICA opened its iconic Diller Scofidio + Renfro museum in 2006 and dramatically altered the landscape for contemporary art in Boston. In 2018, Medvedow opened the ICA Watershed in East Boston, transforming a condemned, former copper pipe factory across Boston Harbor into a new cultural asset. As a champion of art and civic life, Medvedow is committed to nurturing artistic experimentation and amplifying artists’ voices; promoting knowledge and lifelong learning; providing access to and equity in the arts; and sharing the conviction that art is essential to individual happiness, social justice; and a healthy society. Central to her vision, she has created a national model for teen arts education, investing in urban adolescents as future leaders, artists; and electorate. With more than 7,000 teens participating in ICA teen education programs annually, this initiative received a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program award from the White House in 2012. Most recently, Medvedow spearheaded a national effort for paid internships in American art museums. Medvedow sits on the Boston Public School Arts Advisory Board, is Chair of Boston After School and Beyond, and co-chairs the Professional Issues Committee of the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD). Prior to joining the ICA, Medvedow was the Deputy Director/curator of Contemporary Art at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the founder of Vita Brevis. She is the subject of an MIT Sloan School of Management Case Study on Leadership and Risk and is currently at work on a new publication, tentatively titled, Wielding and Yielding Power: Contemporary Art and Civic Life.
