If you are interested in what lays ahead for the MFA, you have come to the right place. Makeeba McCreary, Chief of Learning and Community Engagement, will expand on the initiatives that are shaping the future of the museums in our city.
Many industries are being negatively impacted by COVID-19, including the museum industry. On May 7th, attendees will virtually tune in to learn from Makeeba McCreary, Chief of Learning and Community Engagement, about how the Museum of Fine Arts is integrating community voices into exhibitions and what virtual experiences are available. Makeeba will speak to the ways she is leading the initiatives that are shaping the future of the museums in our city and will share how her backgrounds in education, consulting, and psychology have all contributed to who she is and what she hopes for the future of Boston.
While nothing can replace an in-person experience with original works of art, our program will start with the MFA offering a virtual peek at “Writing the Future: Basquiat and the Hip-Hop Generation,” which was originally planned to open in early April. The exhibition explores the post-graffiti moment in 1980s New York City — a transformational and insurgent movement ignited by Jean-Michel Basquiat and his peers A-One, ERO, Fab 5 Freddy, Futura, Keith Haring, Kool Koor, LA2, Lady Pink, Lee Quiñones, Rammellzee and Toxic. Audiences can explore elements of the exhibition — including videos, curatorial insights and a soundtrack—on mfa.org, as well as bonus features such as messages from the artists on the MFA’s social media channels.
What is City Awake? Our City Awake programming is designed to build community, engage civically-minded next-gen leaders in dialogue about the most pressing issues facing our region, and celebrate the incredible young talent in Greater Boston.
This session is free to members and non-members, but registration is required.
