Community Conversations: Connecting People, Sharing Stories

Explore the intersection of art, family, and community at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) with self-guided tours of the “Witnessing Humanity: The Art of John Wilson” and the “Van Gogh: The Roulin Family Portraits” exhibitions. Hear from the MFA’s interpretive planner, Jordan Cromwell, and exhibition designer, Luisa Respondek, who will provide insight into their expertise and contributions to John Wilson’s exhibition.

After that, mix and mingle at an exclusive private reception at 465 Bar and Restaurant. This is your chance to connect with fellow young professionals, chat with the MFA’s corporate team, and revel in the beauty of art in a relaxed, social setting. Let’s celebrate community, creativity, and the power of connection through art.

About the Exhibitions

“Witnessing Humanity: The Art of John Wilson” is the largest-ever exhibition of art by John Wilson, who was born and raised in Roxbury. Bringing together more than 100 drawings, paintings, sculptures, and archival works recently made accessible by the Wilson family, this stunning display captures the artist’s reckoning with issues of Black dignity, racial injustice, fatherhood, and family.

“Van Gogh: The Roulin Family Portraits” is the first-ever exploration of the deep bonds of friendship between the artist and a neighboring family he met during his stay in Arles, in the South of France. Van Gogh’s portraits of the postman Joseph Roulin and his wife, Augustine, are two of the great icons of the MFA’s collection, and this exhibition invites you to see them in a new light.
