Join us to hear from experts on the financial year ahead and what you and your business should expect.

This free program will focus on the outlook of Greater Boston’s economy for the year ahead, and how businesses will be positively or negatively impacted. Our speakers will examine how various industries would handle the possibility of a change in the nation’s economic state.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN MY REGISTRATION?

  • The Renaissance Boston Waterfront is a short distance from South Station (Silver line, Red line, bus, commuter rail).
  • Valet parking is available. We do not offer parking validation. 

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

  • Registration & networking begins at 7:30 a.m. The program will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.

CAN I REGISTER AT THE EVENT OR DO I NEED TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE?

  • We have a limited number of tickets available for walk-in registrants. We recommend registering in advance to secure your spot.

WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?

As Chief Investment Officer, John directs the overall investment process and has ultimate responsibility for the work of various investment committees. He also serves as the chief spokesman for the firm’s investment outlook through regular strategy briefings. He appears regularly on CNBC, Nightly Business Report and Fox Business Network, as well as being quoted in the NY Times and Wall Street Journal. Prior to joining People’s United Wealth Management in 2011, John served as Director of Investment Strategy and Alternative Investments at Hawthorn, a $22 billion family office in the PNC Financial Services Group. John is a Board Member on the Council of Churches, on the Professional Advisors Council for the Fairfield County Community Foundation, Chairman of OARS and a member of the Patterson Club, Saugatuck Rowing Club and the University Barge Club. John graduated from Villanova University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in finance.

Alicia Sasser Modestino is an Associate Professor with appointments in the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs and the Department of Economics at Northeastern University. Since 2015, Dr. Modestino has also served as the Associate Director of the Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy. She is also a nonresident fellow at the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program and an invited researcher of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at MIT. Previously, Modestino was a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston where she led numerous research projects on regional economic and policy issues. Dr. Modestino’s current research focuses on labor and health economics including changing skill requirements, youth development, healthcare, housing, and migration. Her work has been funded by the William T. Grant Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the Boston Foundation, the National Security Agency (NSA), and J-PAL. She has published in peer-reviewed publications including Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Human Resources, Labour Economics, Health Affairs, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Journal of Consumer Affairs, and Regional Science and Urban Economics. Dr. Modestino’s research has been covered extensively in the media including the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Bloomberg, the Christian Science Monitor, the Boston Globe, Politico, and Vox. She has appeared on NPR’s On Point, WBUR’s Radio Boston, WCVB’s CityLine, NBC News, and FOX25 News. Modestino holds both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, where she also served as a doctoral fellow in the Inequality and Social Policy Program at the Kennedy School of Government.

Janet Wu is an Anchor/Reporter for Bloomberg based out of Boston. She regularly interviews Boston area founders, investors and CEOs for Bloomberg Baystate Business. Previously, Janet worked at Boston’s NBC station. Her work has been published in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and the 2018 Norton Sampler of Essays. Janet is a founding member of SheGives, a philanthropic fund created by women. She is an overseer for the New England Conservatory of Music and Franciscan Children’s. She sits on advisory boards for Homestart and the Max Warburg Courage Curriculum. Janet graduated from Yale with a dual major in Philosophy and Psychology and has a Master’s degree in Journalism and International Affairs from Columbia. She was named the 2015 New England Girl Scouts Leading Woman of the Year and delivered a 2016 TedX Talk on resetting perspective through exploration. She plays the piano and cello and has traveled to 84 countries, 39 of them alone.

John Sackton is president of Seafood Datasearch and the founding editor and publisher of SeafoodNews, one of the most widely read daily seafood industry trade publications. Through his consulting company, Sackton does extensive market research, consulting, and price arbitration for fisheries in North America, Europe and Asia. He has a particular focus on crab, lobster, shrimp, oysters, mussels and whitefish. In addition to writing about seafood markets on a daily basis, Sackton gives multiple speeches and presentations per year at seafood industry meetings and conferences. His major consulting clients on a multi-year basis include the crab and shrimp industry (both harvesters and processors) in Newfoundland, in Alaska, and in Oregon. He has also done consulting work on lobster, cod, other groundfish, oysters and mussels, catfish, salmon, Russian crab and U.S. seafood markets for over one hundred international corporate and government clients during the past 23 years. In 2006, Sackton developed a regular market reporting service from Japan to cover Japanese markets, and has since hired correspondents in China, Russia, India, and Eastern Europe, and developed alliances with UK based Seafood News services.
