WEBER SHANDWICK’S MICHO SPRING VOTED IN AS NEXT BOARD CHAIR FOR THE GREATER BOSTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Boston, MA – Micho F. Spring, Chair of Weber Shandwick’s Global Corporate Practice and New England President, has been named the incoming chair of the Board of Directors for the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, the leading business association for the greater Boston region. Micho, the recipient of the Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Pinnacle Award in 2000, previously served as vice chair for the Chamber’s Executive Committee for the past two years, and as a member of the organization’s Board of Directors for over 17 years. She commences her two-year term on July 1, 2020.
“I am both humbled and energized by the opportunity to chair the Chamber Board at such a pivotal time for our business community,” said Micho Spring. “Working with Jim Rooney and his exceptional team and building on Paul Ayoub’s substantial accomplishments, I am confident we can achieve a more equitable and inclusive economy in Greater Boston, one where all our businesses and employees can thrive.”
“Micho is one of the region’s most accomplished professionals in both the public and private sectors,” said James E. Rooney, President & CEO of the Chamber. “She is a champion for the Greater Boston Chamber’s mission and is committed to ensuring economic opportunity is available for all. Micho’s invaluable insight and perspective will make her a terrific chair, and I look forward to continuing our work together as she assumes her new role.”
As chair, Micho will preside over a Board of Directors that includes some of the most prominent and influential business leaders in Greater Boston. She will work with the Chamber and its Board to advance the organization’s mission to make Greater Boston the best place for all businesses and all people to thrive.
“Micho is the perfect person to carry forward the important work of the Chamber at this time,” said Board Chair and Executive Committee, Nutter, Paul J. Ayoub. “She is a universally respected leader in the Boston business and civic community and brings her wisdom and experience on the Chamber board to her new role. Micho’s strategic thinking and her ability to connect and communicate with others has and will be critical to the Chamber’s work as the leading business organization in the region. The Chamber’s future is bright with Micho as our next Chair.”
“Micho is exactly the right person to take on the role of Board Chair for the Greater Boston Chamber during these challenging times,” said Gloria C. Larson, former President of Bentley University. “Highly accomplished and long respected in the Commonwealth and well beyond, she brings significant leadership capabilities, business acumen, and deep civic roots to the role. Importantly, as the Chamber’s first Latina Chairperson, she will be an exceptional champion for the Chamber’s open commitment to becoming a stronger advocate and ally for racial equality and social justice across our region.”
“Micho has been a core anchor of our values at the Chamber,” said Navjot Singh, PhD., Managing Partner, Boston, McKinsey & Company. “She has been on the forefront of shaping our thinking on diversity and inclusion and brings a unique combination of charisma, humility, camaraderie, and aspiration to our community.”
“Micho is an exceptional leader who has been committed to and engaged with the Chamber for a long time,” said Karen Kaplan, Chairman & CEO, Hill Holiday. “Micho will be the first Latina Chair of the Chamber, and I am particularly proud that, out of the last seven Board chairs including Micho, three have been women and two have been people of color.”
Micho takes over for outgoing board chair and partner at Boston law firm Nutter, Paul J. Ayoub. “Paul’s tenure as chair will be marked by his passionate commitment to both elevating the voice of the Chamber as an advocate for the economic competitiveness of our region and, for welcoming more women and people of color onto the Chamber Board than ever before in our history,” said Rooney. “As chair, Paul has been very intentional about encouraging the engagement and participation of all Chamber members regardless of gender or race,” said Spring.” His deep commitment to inclusion has made the Chamber’s voice much more meaningful and impactful”.
