Dear Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Members,
As we look forward to the month of July and the beginning of the 2023 fiscal year, I am pleased and honored to begin my role as the incoming Chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
Under the leadership of Jim Rooney, the Greater Boston Chamber has become the most influential business group in the Commonwealth. I stand on the shoulders of giants as I succeed previous Chamber Board Chairs, including Fletcher “Flash” Wiley, Gloria Larson, Nav Singh, John Fish, Karen Kaplan, Paul Ayoub, and most recently, Micho Spring. Micho has been an empowering Board Chair, delivering the Higher Education Leadership Council, the public call to action to businesses to diversify their Boards, leading the Mayor of Boston’s transition committee, and much more. The Chamber is ready to focus on even more challenges and opportunities because of Micho and Jim’s partnership.
Greater Boston is an extraordinary region, blessed with great assets that have led to growth and prosperity. Yet, we also face profound challenges—housing, transportation, public education, gun violence, economic equity and inclusion, climate change, and competitiveness—that require concerted action. It is the leadership and vision of the business community—our collective voice—that will help ensure we address and solve the complex challenges facing our region and world. My goals during my time as Board Chair include:
This moment calls for all of us—our entire Chamber membership—to step up to shape the future of our region. Jim and I, and the Board, will need your support over the next two years. Your help is critical to achieving the Chamber’s purpose: Make Greater Boston the best place for all businesses and all people to thrive.
I look forward to working with you. Together, we will continue to drive forward innovation, equity, competitiveness, and prosperity that is distinctly Boston.
Regards,
Ronald O’Hanley Chairman & CEO State Street
