Senator Edward J. Markey has a prolific legislative record on major issues across the policy spectrum and a deep commitment to improving the lives of the people of Massachusetts and our country. Since being elected to the United States Senate, Senator Markey has helped secure money to dredge the Boston Harbor, fought to increase the National Institutes of Health budget, from which Massachusetts receives $2.57 billion dollars annually, and secured millions in funding for critical infrastructure projects in the Commonwealth. He is a Congressional leader on fighting the opioid crisis, often partnering with Republican colleagues on legislative solutions. Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Markey served 37 years in the U.S. House of Representatives where he fought for his constituents and amassed a record of energy, environmental, telecommunications and consumer protection legislative achievements
