Pride Month is a time to celebrate identity, resilience, and progress—and Greater Boston’s LGBTQIA+-owned businesses are at the forefront of that spirit. This June, let’s take a moment to honor the inclusive spaces they’ve built, recognize their contributions, and support the entrepreneurs ensuring our community continues to thrive. From home decor to nightlife, sweet treats to quick-service dining, these businesses welcome all that are interested and bring connection to our city.
Owners of Flourish & Foundry, an LGBTQIA+ and woman-owned business located on Tremont Street in Boston, Sarah Marchione and Marcus Hamblin, built their success on improving the experience of shopping for home decor. Valuing ethical sourcing, low environmental impact, and quality, Flourish & Foundry strives to create impact on the broader community while helping their customers live authentically in their homes.
A pivotal part of Boston’s queer culture, Dani’s Queer Bar aims to celebrate the identities of the LGBTQIA+ community in Greater Boston and create a sense of belonging. Dani’s Queer Bar highlights the importance of their work, sharing that “in a world that can sometimes feel isolating, Dani’s Queer Bar is a beacon of hope and connection…Our bar isn’t just about a brick and mortar; it’s about creating a legacy of support, empowerment, and understanding.”
Sweeties was founded in 2023 by Anika and Jamila Gramsey, married mothers of two and lovers of sweet treats with the goal of bringing joy to their patrons and community, innovating the world of soft-serve, and bringing people together for daily ice cream socials. Sweeties process is unique, taking hard-packed ice cream and mixing it with your choice of mix-in to create a new soft-serve style flavor crafted by you.
The first in the city, Chick-fil-A is home of the original chicken sandwich. Chick-fil-A is also known for its unmatched customer experience, ranking first on the American Customer Satisfaction index for 10 years in a row. Chick-fil-A Copley Square is locally owned by Operator Matt DeMichele-Rigoni, who has been with the company for over 17 years. Matt is married to his husband João, who also plays a major role in the business. You will find Matt and João in the restaurant on a daily basis. Their vision is: “Touching lives by creating moments of care,” which has been the north-star for the organization’s strategy to create a place that team members feel cared for, a place that is top-of-mind for consumers, and a local organization that is growing with excellence.
While Pride Month is a dedicated time to celebrate and uplift the LGBTQIA+ community, true support extends beyond June. These businesses depend on the strength of their communities.
