Earlier this spring, the Chamber submitted a letter of testimony in support of Governor Baker's proposed economic development legislation H.4297, An Act enhancing opportunities for all. Governor Baker’s proposal includes strategic investments that focus on building a skilled workforce. Investing in and fostering the talent in our current and future workforce will keep Greater Boston a global competitor and create new opportunities for residents and businesses alike. The Chamber supports capital funding for the following programs in particular:
- $75 million in Skills Capital Grants to fund equipment and facility upgrades to expand career and technical education (CTE) and training programs that are aligned with regional economic and workforce development priorities
- $12.5 million to provide matching grants administered by the Massachusetts Technology Development Corporation for small businesses
- $300 million for the MassWorks infrastructure program
In addition to these capital investments, the Chamber is supportive of a new Apprenticeship Tax Credit for employers hiring and training employees in the health care, manufacturing, and information technology industries. Finally, the Chamber supports the provision that allows the fantasy sports gaming industry to continue to grow, innovate, and invest in Massachusetts beyond July 31, 2018.
