On May 9, Chamber President Jim Rooney submitted two letters to members of the Massachusetts Senate as they continue to craft their version of the FY 2018 spending plan.
The first letter provided feedback on specific provisions that would impact our region’s economy. The Chamber urges the Senate to support investments in workforce development, the early education salary reserve, and a veteran’s tax credit. The Chamber opposes the proposed accelerated sales tax remittance and ambulance rate setting provisions.

The second letter specifically highlighted the Chamber’s continued concerns with the employer health care assessment that was also included in Governor Baker’s FY 2018 budget proposal and the adopted House budget. The Chamber maintains that any assessment should be limited to address employers unfairly shifting employees onto MassHealth, while protecting employers who provide benefits.
