The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce submitted testimony to the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development this week in support of S.1043, An Act to enhance employment opportunities. S.1043 would align the state's independent contractor law with the federal standard.
The Chamber highlighted to the Committee a broader disconnect between the way our state's people and business want to work and the limits imposed by the current independent contractor test. The Chamber understands and supports protecting employees from abusive practices, but these restrictions must also balance the desire for more independent and flexible options that reflect the realities of today's economy.
