The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce has joined with a coalition of other business and industry groups to submit testimony to the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development on H.1033/S.999, An Act to Prevent Wage Theft and Promote Employer Accountability. Massachusetts presently has the most comprehensive wage laws and enforcement mechanisms in the nation. Because of this, the coalition believes that the solution to wage theft violations is additional funding for the tools currently utilized by the Attorney General’s office rather than adopting additional laws. The current drafts of H.1033 and S.999 could have numerous unintended consequences for law-abiding businesses who operate in full compliance with the laws.
