Boston is academically young and the sky is blue – filed under: things we already know. According to the Atlantic’s CityLab, Boston ranks 7th in the United States in terms of a college population, with 400,000 total students.
However, Boston’s youth doesn’t end with Eagles, Huskies, and Terriers; it expands post-cap and gown, right into the labor market. According to the Census’ 2010-2014 American Community Survey, 35.6% of Greater Boston’s labor force population falls between the ages of 20 and 44. When the age range and region are narrowed down to 20-34 and Boston proper respectively, the workforce percentage jumps to 48%.
With so much young talent in one region, we at the Greater Boston Chamber saw the need to get these young professionals connected to each other and to the greater Boston business community. So, in March of 2015, the Chamber created the Young Professionals Network (YPN), an organization which has served as key resource to the younger employees of our Chamber member companies. YPN has enjoyed fantastic growth since its creation (2,300 members and growing) and an undefeated record at Celtics games.
On Thursday, July 14, the Chamber’s Young Professionals Network will be taking to the streets – literally D Street in the South Boston Waterfront – for a night of networking, music, games, and giveaways at the Lawn On D, brought to you by YPN presenting sponsor Citizens Bank. In fact, the Lawn On D event will be the launch event for the new partnership between the Young Professionals Network and Citizens Bank. Chamber of Commerce President Jim Rooney weighs in on the new team-up. Read more about the YPN partnership in our recent press release.
Tickets to the event include one complimentary drink, appetizers and surprise giveaways. Come on down for some lawn games, music from DJ Ryan Brown, and a chance to be the first person to take on photo on a Lawn On D swing.
