Governor Charlie Baker gave his annual Greater Boston Chamber Government Affairs Forum speech last week before an audience of more than 630 leaders from the business community. The governor focused on three areas important to our economy.
Knowing that transportation is a top policy priority of the Chamber and the business community, Governor Baker opened his remarks with a focus on the MBTA. He broke the news that MassDOT will immediately begin the process of finding a new general manager for the MBTA who is “CEO type” and a “turnaround” specialist able to bring significant improvements to the authority.
Looking statewide, the governor shared the progress made by his office in encouraging best practices among municipalities to help with their fiscal challenges. He also updated the audience on the workforce development measures included in his economic development legislation, which he signed into law last August.
The governor then highlighted the importance of cybersecurity to our economy, not only as a protective measure for important sectors like financial services and health care, but also a rapidly growing industry contributing the Commonwealth’s economy.
