About the Hub Crawl

Greater Boston companies need a strong pipeline of talent to remain competitive in this global economy and retaining the highly educated students who study in our region each year is key to securing this pipeline.

The Chamber's Hub Crawl events work to help make the critical connections between employers and undergraduate students interested in pursuing their careers in the region.

Through a series of informational and networking sessions held at the offices of leading companies, more than 350 undergraduate students from the region's colleges and universities have met with area employers to learn about career opportunities available to them in the region.

Previous Hub Crawl events have been held in 2004 and 2005.

Participating Companies Have Included:

Citizens Bank, Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, Fidelity Investments, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, John Hancock, Liberty Mutual, Mellon, Sovereign Bank, and State Street.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Inc., Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Genzyme, Novartis,

Partners HealthCare, Pfizer, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and The Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research.

The History of Hub Crawl

The Hub Crawl was developed in direct response to the findings of the Chamber’s 2003 report “Preventing a Brain Drain: Talent Retention in Greater Boston.” The study found that 50 percent of the students who attend college in Greater Boston leave the region after graduation, and that jobs were a key factor in keeping them here. The Greater Boston economy is increasingly dependent on knowledge-based businesses, and a strong, educated workforce.   Through retention initiatives such as the Hub Crawl, the Chamber is working to connect undergraduate students with employers and keep our highly educated workforce in the region.
